Check out this NPR interview with science fiction writers Tananarive Due, science fiction writer Steven Barnes, and speculative fiction editor Sheree R. Thomas. It's an older read; but worth the time.

I'm noticing that there is an lack of interviews with black female sci-fi writers/actors etc. I guess I'm going to have to change that.

Angelyca,
ReplyDeleteHigh Five to you!!
I started a new blog on this. There WILL be black women characters of the Princess Leia/LOTR variety.
Here it is: http://thealliancesaga.blogspot.com/
The story is not complete but stay tuned for it. I want to expand it into something big.
There are several of us. I am one: Nisi Shawl. Andrea Hairston, Nalo Hopkinson, Nora Jemisin, Nnedi Okorafor, LaShawn Wanak, Tempest Bradford, Nalo Hopkinson, and many, many other black women write sf and fantasy. Google us. Also, check out the website of the Carl Brandon Society, which supports the presence of people of color in the fantastic genres.
